2014 Brennan Pinot Noir 

This wine has vigorous structure and body, with full and broad tannins. Deep and complex aromas of dark berries, herbaceous characters and some lifted florals. A wine with years of cellaring potential, and a fantastic vintage for Pinot in Gibbston.

Even ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has a full, broad and well-packed nose with deep and complex aromas of vibrant, dark-red and black-berried fruits along with subtle notes of dark herbs, spice, earthy detail and some lifted oak, unfolding suggestions of violet and black-red florals.

Vineyard: 

Brennan Family Vineyard Clones 10/5, 667, 777, 5, 6, 115

The Brennan Family vineyards encompass 8 Hectares of Pinot Noir along the Gibbston Back Road, Gibbston, Central Otago. The site offers several different aspects and soil types ranging from the lean gravel slopes to the heavier clay flats. The majority of the vineyard is well over fifteen years old and represents some of the most mature vineyard in the area.

The fruit selected was: Clone 10/5 from a moderately sloping area of the Brennan Family Vineyards, Clones 667 and 777 from the steep leaner soils of the Brennan Vineyard. Clones 5 and 6 from the higher flats and clone 115 from the moderately sloping/leaner soils of the eastern end of the vineyard.

Crop level: 5 tonnes per hectare

Block:  Blend of 6 clones (5, 667, 777, 115, 10/5 & 6)

Whole cluster percentage: 15 – 20%                                   

Soaking: 10 days at 10-15 degrees

Average time in fermenter: 30 days                                     

Ferment: 85% innoculated, 15% natural

Maturation: 11 months in French oak                                  

New oak percentage: 45%
